Rachel Alexandra Crushes Slim Competition At Belmont

As shown by the above YouTube video, Rachel Alexandra easily won the Mother Goose at Belmont Saturday afternoon, winning by 19 1/4-lengths in the $300,000, Grade I race.

Two horses were scratched Saturday morning, thus Rachel faced off against Malibu Prayer and Flashing. After the race, Alexandra's jockey, Calvin Borel, compared the horse to Secretariat and Seattle Slew.

About 13,000 showed up to the racetrack in Elmont, Long Island. Jess Jackson, a part-owner of Rachel Alexandra, is giving a percentage of the filly’s future winnings to the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Race for the Cure for breast cancer. Women were admitted free to Belmont and pink rubber Rachel Alexandra bracelets were handed out at the gates.

Alexandra travelled Sunday to Saratoga to train, possibly for the Travers held in Saratoga at the end of August. For more click this.
